Watch our very special webinar as part of JAM JAR - Juvenile Arthritis Month by Juvenile Arthritis Research and hear from Daniella Sutton, a 17 year old female British racing driver. Daniella is driving in F4 this season. Driving at over 150mph in an open-wheel car, Daniella is hoping to make her way to Formula 1. As well as being at the top of British racing, Daniella is also an incredible official Ambassador for Juvenile Arthritis Research, helping raise awareness that children and young people get arthritis. Daniella also has JIA herself.

The webinar was hosted by our Joint Voices group. Joint Voices is our group for 18-30 year olds with a diagnosis of JIA.

During the webinar we spoke about a number of topics, and Juvenile Arthritis Research has resources available to support you for many of them.

Support at school, college and university

School Toolkits are available for schools in the UK (and as an online download for international use). These contain tips and suggestions to support children and young people in education.
A 'quick guide' is also available for schools, along with other resources and information for schools.
Dr Rachel Tattersall mentioned a letter that your medical team can write to support you at school, which can be useful if your school or college is not familiar with JIA and the challenges it can cause. You can download a copy of the template.
An 'Individual Healthcare Plan' (also called an IHP) is a document that you prepare with your school or college to set out how your JIA affects you and what provision the school should put in place to support you. A template, with some example wording you can use as a starting point, can be found on our ParentZone pages.
Tips for applying for and starting university can be found in our area for teenagers and young adults.

Support for you

If you are in the UK and have JIA (or have a child with JIA) you can request a free Little Box Of Hope at www.jarproject.org/hope, which is full of information and resources to support you.
We also run regular ParentZoom sessions for parents to connect with each other in a peer support forum.
Joint Voices is for those aged 18-30 with JIA.
Our mental health and wellbeing hub has tips and suggestions to support you, including ideas for overcoming needle anxiety.
